Bio

Born in 1982, Raven Skyriver grew up in the San Juan Islands. His upbringing linked him to the land and surrounding waters. Living in a creative home where sculptors came to learn sculpture and design, Raven was intrigued by the fact that people could pull a sculpture out of a log. This fascination led him on an artistic path.

At the age of 16, Skyriver was introduced to glassblowing by his mentor Lark Dalton through an alternative high school program. Immediately captivated by the medium, Raven explored every opportunity to work in glass. He joined the William Morris team through Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen in 2003. This was his introduction to sculptural glass. Over the following years, Raven built up the vocabulary needed to express his own narrative.

In 2018, Raven and his wife Kelly O'Dell built their home studio on Lopez Island, where Raven was born. Skyriver uses close observation of her subjects to create an ongoing personal dialogue. This conversation focuses on her understanding of her heritage, the celebration of biodiversity in the natural world, the importance of native species and the delicate balance that sustains our collective existence.
