Lives and works in Tacoma, Washington, USA
Gabe Feenan began working with glass in the 1990s in San Francisco. Since 2002, he has been resident gaffer at Tacoma's Museum of Glass.
Feenan creates elegant, refined pieces whose stacked geometric shapes evoke strength and balance.
His work is based on three simple figures - the sphere, the cone and the cylinder - and their interaction with light.
Trapped bubbles, hourglass shapes, tapering peaks and solid bases are the hallmarks of Feenan's work. Yet, by playing with the density of color and the thickness of glass, and thus altering the light, all his sculptures are different.
With clean lines, subtle, harmonious tones and delicate filigree requiring technical skill and dexterity, Feenan attempts to underline the importance of art in a machine-made world.
Gabe Feenan has been a guest artist at international glass institutions including the Pilchuck Glass School, the Corning Museum of Glass, the Glass Factory (Sweden) and the International Glass Symposium (Czech Republic). He has also taught at Pittsburgh Glass Center and Wilson High School via the Hilltop Artists program in Tacoma.
