Ned Cantrell

b. 1975, England
Lives and works in Ebeltoft, Denmark

Ned Cantrell is a graduate of the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham, UK. He stumbled upon the world of glass through experimental work that combined ceramics and shattered glass. Instantly captivated by the intriguing reactions of this unique medium, he began to study its physical properties and honed his craft under the guidance of European master glassmakers, naturally evolving into a skilled glassblower.

Over the years, he has immersed himself in an array of glassblowing and hot-glass sculpting techniques, which he channels into an eclectic and distinctive style. Drawing on a lifelong passion for pop art, he dives deep into the realm of contraction, creating intricately detailed and whimsically kitsch pieces. By incorporating symbols of popular culture and consumerism, such as waste, tattoos and science fiction, Ned crafts art infused with humour and surprises.
