Benjamin Cobb

b. Newport, Rhode Island, USA
Lives and works in Seattle, Washington, USA

Benjamin Cobb discovered glass work in his teens, sparking a tireless quest to shape the material in its transparent and opaque forms. These distinct, contrasting properties form the foundation of his creative process, drawing inspiration from natural and elemental shapes, as well as biology and botany, spanning everything from cellular to life-size dimensions. His unique pieces are abstract reinterpretations of these natural forms.

In 1997, Benjamin attended the School for American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology. While working on his BFA, he continued his education with classes at The Studio in Corning, New York. After graduating, he worked at various studios in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Seattle. Benjamin has also worked at Haystack Mountain School for Crafts, The Studio at Corning, and Pilchuck Glass School. He currently works at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA, where he is a designer and the Lead Glassblower, as well as the Hot Shop Manager of the Museum’s glass studio. His work is represented by Vetri International and the William Traver Gallery in Seattle.
